Last Day HIGH!

Yay! It's my last day at work. I love this day. It is a day when I close a door and open a new window. A day where I truly appreciate how life ends and begins. It is a day- my last day at Wartsila Phils.

I am thankful to my colleagues who dedicate their life for the company. Those who helped me and taught me things I never knew. The employees who shared their life with me. The employees who laughed with me and my beer buddies at SBMA. I also thank God for giving me a chance to grow inside the company.

So long guys... - Näkemiin!(finnish for goodbye)

Last Day

Friday is my last day with the company. It is hard to let go but that is life. You cannot hold on to something you are not happy with and vice-versa. I will survive this and the next company that I will work with will be better, I guess.

The companies that I am looking for work now are Davis Langdon Seah and Canall Corporation. Davis Langdon Seah is a multi-national company specializing in Quantity Surveying. I already took the tests and waiting for an interview. I have a friend there, his name is Rommel Salar, my classmate in UST. I like to be part of that company but I still am looking for other place of work. Canall Corporation is based in Subic. They have a lot of construction works there especially in Hanjin. I love working in Subic because my grand uncle, who is the highest ranking official in SBMA, is there. I could also practice a lot of Civil Engineering jobs there but I am not hoping for a good compensation.

Last day! I know in our family, we have a trend of someone dying every two years. The last death was my father in 2005. This year I hope it won't be me. But, I am expecting it to be me and I will spend the rest of my days living like it was my last day on earth.

Construction Technology and Building Systems

Construction Technology and Building Systems have changed dramatically in the past 20 years. There are a lot of studies involving these systems that makes construction safer, economical, faster and better. These are innovations aimed to improve the lives of the workers and the end-users.

Technologies in Construction are now more adept in answering concerning the environment. Global warming, as an issue, is now a global awareness. Helping to minimize wastes will significantly contribute to help the environment’s well-being. Economically speaking, this approach costs more than usual conventional approach. One example is using the EcoSystem™ environment friendly elevators which use AC gearless motors, unlike hydraulic type elevators that can cause leaks and harm the environment. Another example is the Water-free urinals that do not need water to flush urine, saves thousands of gallons a year.
Building Systems are also changing. Building systems are more advanced, economical and faster than before. The process are also streamed lined to produce same results but at low cost. There are also processes that limits labors on the job site by using advanced equipments that are safer. These systems such as Quadlocks™, Phenix Sytems™ etc. makes construction easier, less wastes, high quality, safer and economical.

In my experience as a Civil Engineer, I have seen countless of mistakes, reworks, unsafe environment, bad management, poor accounting and poor quality of construction. Philippine contractors are not adapting systems as specified by the National Building Code or the Occupational Health and Safety Commission. They are more focused on profit rather than the well-being of workers. They are focused on saving more money rather than taking care of the environment. The Philippine Law is there but the implementation is not. The contractors tend to relax on the laws that protect the environment and the people. I hope there will come a time that buildings, big and small, will be audited by the government on these matters and I also hope they will be penalized for such actions. The problem with construction is discipline. We must discipline our sub-ordinates and ourselves to these small things that can be a big issue when neglected. We must be diligent enough to impose the laws that can also benefit the quality of the building.

Civil Engineers, such as me, should start learning new methods rather than be stagnant in doing the same routine. I know more now but I still hunger for more knowledge. I am striving to gain more and it is always fun to learn new methods and systems. It is really not the body strength that produces more money but it’s the brain’s power. How much you know are the things that are paid more.

Ces't La Vie

Such is life! That is what Ces't La Vie means. My life is heading towards a great direction and I do not even know where. Hehe..

Our life undergoes a series of trials an events. There are things that we do not expect and sometimes we have no control of it. The choices that we will make are sometimes choices that we do not like.

People can be very manipulative sometimes, selfish even. People hold on to things that they like even that thing does not want to be hold on to. It always happens to lovers. Love fades and lovers wants freedom. The fire and the desire that each of them have, must be rekindled always. It must be taken care of and always put a reason to stay. It's how they think of things to fuel their relationships that makes them creative.

Trials and Moving On

My blog has a value now, thanks to the company's international IT. The last blog, before this, has gotten the attention of the Global Company. Because of what happened, the company will not renew my contract. I was saddened about the news that day, but I have to stay strong and firm.

I may not gotten what I expected but at least I could go on. There are consequences to actions done on my part and I am man enough to accept it. Maybe it is time for me the take a vacation out of the company and venture out to find my individuality.

I really am sorry that these things has happened. And It is a good lesson learned!
